Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal syndrome common among women. It’s somewhat common but serious disorder involving abnormal operation of the reproductive system. The term refers to the growth of multiple cysts on the ovaries of affected woman, giving the ovaries an unusually large and studded appearance.
- Cysts in the ovaries.
- High level of male hormones(testosterone).
- Irregular or skipped periods.
- Hair loss from head and unwanted hair growth
- Insulin resistance Women with PCOS produce higher amount of male hormones. This hormone imbalances causes them to skip menstrual periods and makes it harder for them to get pregnant. How to Tackle It: Women with PCOS are often found to have higher insulin levels which might affect the pancreas and insulin receptors in the long run.
So, a low carb diet which won`t have much of an insulin surge, adequate exercise and meditation will help the person a lot in bringing down the PCOS syndrome.
And what about Periods???
Well, I mean you’re eating habits will remain the same for your periods as well. Women loose iron in the form of hemoglobin while bleeding during periods. Hemoglobin is an amino acid which contains iron. So, make sure to consume foods which has enough first-class protein throughout the day on the daily basis. With that your daily quota of iron, zinc and other vitamins and minerals will also be fulfilled. Foods such as chicken, red meat, fish, paneer, cheese, milk, yoghurt and supps like magnesium and omega 3 will do the job.
FACT: More than 95% of the functional iron present in the human body is Heme based which is only available in the non veg foods. Plant based proteins have mainly non heme-based iron which is not well absorbed and also not required by the human body.!
**I know it`s easier said than done but try not to take much stress because in that situation your body starts producing Cortisol (the stress hormone) which has got its own sets of drawbacks which will further worsen your situation.
